Prisa ratifies the appointment of Andrés Varela (Global Alconaba) as proprietary director

This Wednesday, Prisa appointed Andrés Varela Entrecanales, representing Global Alconaba, as the new proprietary director for the next three years at an Extraordinary Shareholders’ Meeting. The appointment occurs after the previous meeting following a request from Global Alconaba itself.

The appointment has had the approval of 99.41% of the shareholders. Global Alconaba became a shareholder of the owner of El País last May after buying 7% of the shares owned by Telefónica for 34 million euros.

The new shareholder of Prisa requested the dismissal of Alcántara Rojas by owning only 5% of the shares, a percentage lower than the 7% that he currently owns.

“We are delighted that Andrés is joining us and also with the presence of Global Alconaba on the board”, celebrated Joseph Oughourlian, president of Prisa after knowing the result of the vote.

He is the “only” member of the Prisa Board of Directors who has had a “special general shareholders’ meeting” for him, commented Oughourlian in reference to the meeting that the Board had to hold, on an extraordinary basis, to ratify this appointment.
