Productivity Course #7. Time control – .com

Welcome to the seventh lesson of the , in which we look at how to work not longer hours, but smarter.

Today we will see several time tracking tools, which will allow us to know exactly what we spend our time on (data, not estimates!).

7 – Time control

67% of people are wrong by more than a 60% deviation when they try to answer the question “What do you spend the time of your working day”.

It is true that we know how to make a list of the things we do (more to go), but when we try to put a percentage of dedication to those tasks, we fail miserably. We haven’t the slightest idea. And it is that time flies when you have a good time, and freezes when we do things that we do not like.

So let’s see a few tools (all of them with some free version), which will allow us to know exactly what we spend our time on. And most importantly: We will be able to make decisions based on that information.

As you can see, working with these applications is crucial, since otherwise it will be impossible for us to calculate what we are spending our time on. It is impossible (unless we are a wonder) so that we can mentally know what tasks, clients, projects and applications we spend what % of time throughout the month. And more if we introduce custom variables and categories, such as . It’s basically impossible.

Thus, thanks to these tools we will be able to analyze the data (they don’t cheat), to know not only what we dedicate our time to, but even more important… what we do NOT dedicate it to, because we already know that . And these tools don’t lie. Thanks to them we will VERY easily detect what we are doing wrong, and we will be able to take action to solve it.

Anyway, this is all for today. I do not steal more time, because time is money. Also, you already have homework:

  • First make the “estimate” of what you spend your time on. You write it down, you save it, and you forget about it.
  • Then install all those applications, and test them for a week, to see which one you like best. Then leave the rest, and continue three more weeks using only the one you have chosen.
  • And once that time has passed, analyze the data and compare it with what you had written down. You will be surprised at what you will discover about yourself. 🙂

See you in the next lesson, with more productivity, more tools and more efficiency. Until then… Let’s produce!
