‘Pule’, the most expensive cheese in the world

Would you pay 1000 euros for a kilo of cheese? Well, that’s what Pule cheese costs, the most expensive on the market today.

This cheese is found in the Balkans, north of Belgrade, and is made with donkey’s milk, with low fat content and at a fairly high price for most pockets.

Pule means ‘foal’ in Serbian and is made with milk from a special breed of donkeys that is produced exclusively in the Zasavica nature reserve, where 100 of these animals live, making it even more exclusive.

A liter of milk costs around 40 euros and to obtain a kilo of Pule cheese, 25 liters of donkey’s milk are needed. So a kilo of this cheese costs 1,000 euros, an amount that very few can afford.
