How much do Lidl workers earn: salaries from 1,300 euros and child support

The Management of Lidl Spain has registered the new collective agreement of the German company, which after being published in the , improves the salaries of its employees by 5% and includes several benefits in their working conditions.

Among the main advantages acquired are direct benefits for children, the right to disconnection and raises for various groups of its employees.

This is valid for the years 2020 and 2021 and gives continuity to the employment strategy that the supermarket chain launched in 2016 with the signing of its first collective agreement.

Better salaries starting at 1,300 euros per month

The new collective agreement also updates the minimum wage, which is set at 8.85 euros/hour, 21% more than the minimum interprofessional wage (7.28 euros/hour, at the end of 2020).

In addition, the supermarket chain has agreed with the unions to maintain 75% permanent employment for the year as a whole.

By types of jobs, the annual salaries are as follows:

– Department managers will receive: 25,500 euros per year

– Assistants to the store manager and other intermediate operating positions: from 21,000 to 23,500 euros per year

– Attendees: 18,000

– Those belonging to Group III (cashiers, stockers and warehouse porters): 15,886 euros per year.

Lidl pays its employees in 14 payments that can be prorated if desired, which leaves a minimum salary (in 12 payments) of 1,323 euros per month for cashiers, stockers and warehouse porters.

On the other hand, the agreement incorporates new milestones in social matters that guarantee and improve the rights of workers. For example, applying from the first working day paid leave (accidents, serious illness or hospitalization, etc.), which traditionally come into effect immediately without taking into account holidays, with the consequent detriment to the worker.

In addition, it is also stated that WhatsApp groups or other platforms are totally invalidated, therefore, changes in schedules or any other type of communication cannot be communicated by these means. All modifications made by any of these means will be without effect and the effects of these changes will be borne by the company.

Regarding birth rates, those employees with at least one year of seniority in the company at the time of the birth of the child may request a bonus of 50 euros.

In addition, new rights are incorporated, such as having up to one month for hospital admissions for a child or for international adoption, for which the current law only contemplates four days.

The agreement also consolidates rights already acquired such as leave of absence and others are also maintained, such as the five-day weekly shift, a very unusual practice in the sector and that, in addition to Lidl, only Mercadona practices.

In addition, the rights of the employees of the work centers of the supermarket chain in which the production process is directed to ‘e-commerce’ are regulated, in which the periods of high activity (PAA) are regulated, which in In no case may they exceed 12 weeks per year.

Lidl, present in Spain for more than 25 years, currently has more than 600 stores and 10 logistics platforms and a workforce of more than 17,000 employees. The supermarket chain also works closely with some 750 national suppliers from whom it buys products worth more than 4,600 million euros a year, exporting more than half.
