Leonard Blavatnik is considered one of the world’s great fortunes (the largest in the United Kingdom), specifically in 34th place in the list prepared by Bloomberg, with a net worth of 36,000 million dollars. Ukrainian by birth (1957 in Odessa), Russian by adoption and with dual nationality (American in 1984 and British in 2010), Blavatnik has achieved fame thanks to the businesses of her company Access Industries, which range from oil and brick to media and entertainment, among which Warner Music or Dazn stand out.
One of its latest great successes is related to the , and it is that Access Industries, based in New York and offices in London and Moscow, is the platform, owner of Dazn, which has acquired, together with Telefónica, the rights to the competition Spanish. Just a few weeks ago, Blavatnik injected 4,300 million to clean up debt and attract investors given the high debt that Dazn was beginning to accumulate, of which it increased its stake in 2014 from 42.5 to 77%.
Blavatnik immigrated to the United States in 1978, where she went on to study at the best universities, such as Columbia and Harvard. In 1984 he achieved citizenship and in 1986 he founded his great company, Access Industries. In 2011 he bought Warner Music for 3.3 billion and took it public in 2020 for four times its value, starring in it that same year. In addition, Blavatnik also obtained in 2003, together with the Russian millionaire Mikhail Fridman () and other billionaires such as German Khan and Viktor Vekselberg, a majority stake in the Russian oil company TNK-BP. Ten years later, in 2013, he sold it for $7 billion.
During his career he has been linked to UC Rusal, the world’s largest aluminum producer, owned by Russian magnate Roman Abramovich until 2003, and where Blavatnik was a director between 2007 and 2016. He is also linked to Amedia Production, one of the producers of the most important television and audiovisual companies in Russia, and the independent film and production company Al Film, of which it is the owner.

Apart from being a benchmark in the business world, Leonard Blavatnik is known for his high contributions in the form of donations to different and diverse Universities, all through his foundation, the Blavatnik Family Foundation. One of them is that of Oxford, with a donation of 75 million dollars, this being one of the largest in the 900 years of its history. At Harvard he was first for $50 million, but years later he announced a $200 million endowment for the Medical School.
Blavatnik is also notable for her multiple political donations. He contributed US President Barack Obama and his rival Mitt Romney in 2011, and in 2017 to Donald Trump’s endowment fund with $1 million. In 2013, he was knighted in the French Legion of Honor and in 2017 by Queen Elizabeth II for his services to philanthropy.
