The Generalitat sanctions Condis franchises with 730,000 euros for labor irregularities

The Labor Inspectorate of Catalonia has proposed sanctions of 729,370 euros for labor irregularities to eight companies that are part of a franchise system of the Condis supermarket chain.

In the course of the inspection investigation, carried out in June in fourteen work centers of these companies, significant breaches have been detected in different areas of labor regulations, according to the Generalitat.

Specifically, fraud has been discovered in hiring, lack of employment contract, lack of registration with Social Security, illegal transfer of workers, obstruction of inspection activity, violations in terms of working hours and occupational risk prevention, and child labor, among others.

As a consequence of these infractions, the Labor Inspectorate considers that this franchise system has committed legal fraud, verifying an unfair competition practice on the part of these companies.

Four of the sanctioned companies correspond to the same owner, according to Condis, who, after learning of the facts in June, required him to regularize the entire workforce and guarantee their labor rights.

The supermarket chain points out that it carries out periodic audits of its franchisees and that if the companies investigated by the Labor Inspectorate do not meet the required requirements, they will take the appropriate corrective measures, which can lead to the withdrawal of the franchise.

Condis, based in Barcelona, has a network of 713 stores in Catalonia, Aragon and Andorra, of which 548 are franchises and 165 are their own.
