The Generalitat Valenciana asks to extend the curfew to 77 municipalities

The Generalitat Valenciana has already addressed the Superior Court of Justice of the Valencian Community (TSJCV) to request authorization to extend the curfew to more municipalities with the aim of continuing to curb the impact of the pandemic.

Specifically, the restriction that is currently applied to 32 localities would affect 77 towns, as sources familiar with Europa Press have confirmed.

On July 12, the Valencian high court already gave the go-ahead -in addition to the limitation to a maximum of 10 people in social and family gatherings throughout the Valencian territory- to the restriction of night mobility between 1 and 6 a.m. in 32 localities with more than 5,000 inhabitants with a higher epidemiological risk due to Covid-19.

The room then considered that the measures are “balanced”, since they derive “more benefits for the general interest -containment of the pandemic- than damages to other goods or values in conflict”, while complying with the “constitutional judgment of proportionality”.

Now, the Valencian Executive is committed to extending the restriction to control the contagion data. The proposal that is now being sent by the Valencian administration is, in the province of Valencia, the municipalities of Albal, Alboraia, Alcàsser, Aldaia, Alfafar, Alginet, Almussafes, Benaguasil, Benetússer, Benifaió, Bétera, Buñol, Burjassot, Canals, Chiva, Foios, Gandia, Godella, L’Eliana, L’Olleria, Manises, Massamagrell, Massanassa, Meliana, Mislata, Museros, Oliva, Paiporta, Paterna, Picassent, Pobla de Farnals, Pobla de Vallbona, Puçol, El Puig, Rafelbunyol, Requena, Riba-roja de Túria, Rocafort, Sagunto, Silla, Sueca, Tavernes de la Valldigna, Turís, Utiel, València, Vilamarxant, Xeraco and Xirivella.

With regard to the demarcation of Alicante, they would be L’Alfàs del Pi, Alicante, Banyeres de Mariola, Benidorm, Callosa d’en Sarrià, Callosa de Segura, Calp, Dénia, Gata de Gorgos, La Nucía, Muro de Alcoy, Ondara, Pego, Santa Pola, Sant Vicent del Raspeig, Sax, Teulada and Vila Joiosa.

Finally, in Castellón the planned municipalities are Alcalà de Xivert, Almenara, Benicàssim, Borriana, Borriol, Onda, Oropesa del Mar, Peníscola, Torreblanca, Vila-real and Vinaròs.

Looking ahead to the Covid interdepartmental table this Thursday, the ‘president’ of the Generalitat, Ximo Puig, has reiterated that all decisions will be based on the current situation: “The priority will always be to stop infections and assume collective co-responsibility with the restrictions necessary”.

In Madrid, where he has participated in an informative breakfast of Europa Press, the head of the Consell, although he has recognized that the situation is complicated by the extension of the Delta variant, has insisted that “it has nothing to do with January” when there was almost ten times more hospitalized.

Masks

“Decisions must be made, the TSJCV has always endorsed them and we think they are consistent with the situation,” he stressed, adding that it hurts “in his soul” that there are sectors that continue to be affected.

It has also underlined that the vast majority of the population complies with the recommendation to wear a mask, something that other autonomies are now betting on and that the Community advised in the latest health guidelines. The problem, Puig recalled, is the interior spaces and the “moments of trust because this virus attacks our way of being, more so in the Mediterranean area”.

For her part, the Minister of Health, Ana Barceló, has agreed that Valencians “are responding well and responsibly” to the difficulty of keeping their distance when there are crowds.

Before the interdepartmental meeting this Thursday, Barceló stressed that they have requested judicial approval in order to maintain some measures and limitations such as those imposed 15 days ago, including the curfew in municipalities with epidemiological risk.
