The Moonkeys reinvents pasta and pizza with its American gastronomic model

The Moonkeys, pasta & pizza, began its business journey in Zaragoza with the opening of its first store in Spain with which it offered an innovative and unconventional vision of Italian food, following a gastronomic model similar to the one that triumphs in the United States.

Pasta and pizza are always associated with Italian food, but they are gastronomic proposals that, as they have gained followers around the world, have changed the way they are prepared and the ingredients with which they are made, significantly varying their concept “more purist” of Italian gastronomy.

A reinvention in which The Moonkeys, pasta & pizza, a restaurant company that is based on a differentiated gastronomic offer that is far from the classic Italian and the proposals that can be found in other pizzerias or restaurants, has now gone one step further. Italians.

“It is a model similar to those of the United States” and that is also making its way in other European cities, which is characterized by having “the base of Italian food, but modifications are made”, so that each person has the pizza or pasta with the ingredients you want or like the most, explains Aldo Sorrosal, partner and founder of The Moonkeys, pasta & pizza, along with three other partners, to elEconomista

The proposal of this new restaurant company consists of a “fresh, homemade, quality pizza dough, like the Italian, and which is made with its own recipe, but in which the base sauces and toppings are then selected want on her.” So far, diners can choose between four sauces, such as tomato or pumpkin, and 40 different toppings. A system that is also similar to that of pasta -made by hand- in order to add different sauces and toppings.

The gastronomic offer, which also includes other dishes such as salads and desserts, is completed with a menu made up of somewhat different gastronomic proposals for pizzas. For example, there is the pizza “La Maña”, honoring the land of Zaragoza and which has a pumpkin base with borage, black pudding and sausage; the “Donald Trump” pizza with beef, tomato, onion and bacon; “Moonkey Kong”, lamb and cherry confit in Modena vinegar or “Truffles Truforius” with truffle with honey and egg, among other ingredients and proposals.

The Moonkeys, pasta & pizza, has currently opened a restaurant in Zaragoza, at number 2 Baltasar Gracián street, although it is not ruled out that more establishments could be opened given “the success we have had. It has been a boom”.

Precisely, this interest has meant that, for the moment, the delivery service has had to be postponed to focus on the gastronomic offer to taste at the premises itself and to be picked up at the restaurant. “We didn’t expect this.”

The opening of the restaurant, which has generated three jobs, is the result of the work that the four partners began in January 2020 and that they had to stop with the state of alarm due to covid-19. “We took the premises on March 5 and the state of alarm began on March 14. After months of stopping and, already in 2021, we have decided to open” with this innovative proposal.
