These are the days that you have to contribute to be entitled to two years of unemployment

The contributory unemployment benefit, better known as unemployment, is the most outstanding of all the aids that are granted when a person is left without a job. Like the vast majority of these benefits, their collection is not eternal, since the objective at the state level is to recover the worker so that they can rejoin the labor market or as quickly as possible.

Thus, there is a maximum duration of the strike if a new job is not achieved during that time. Specifically, unemployment can be collected for a maximum period of two years, although for this the worker must meet a certain period of time quoted.

Everything is included in the General Social Security Law, which can be consulted . Its article 269 regulates the duration of the contributory unemployment benefit and explains that this duration will depend “on the periods of listed occupation in the six years prior to the legal situation of unemployment” and that only “contributions that have not been computed for the recognition of a previous right, both at the contributory and assistance level”.

In particular, to calculate the contribution periods, the worker’s unemployment contribution is taken into account, which represents 1.55% of the contribution base assumed by the worker and 5.5% of that same base assumed by the business side (1.60% and 6.70% in fixed-term contracts), as explained by the Social Security.

In order to collect two years of unemployment, the accounts are simple: the worker must have contributed for unemployment during the previous six years, that is, all the time that is taken as a reference by law. The quoted time scale that appears in article 269 of the General Social Security Law makes it clear that the worker will be entitled to two years of unemployment (720 days) when he accumulates 2,160 days of contributions.

As the time quoted is less than those 2,160 days, the worker will be entitled to fewer days of unemployment. According to the Social Security table, these are the days of unemployment that can be collected depending on the days previously contributed in that six-year period:

-With an amount of 1,980 to 2,159 days of contribution, you have the right to collect 660 days of unemployment.

-With an amount of 1,800 to 1,979 days of contributions, you have the right to collect 600 days of unemployment.

-With a quantity of 1,620 to 1,799 days of contribution, you have the right to 540 days of unemployment.

-With a quantity of 1,440 to 1,619 days of contribution, you have the right to 480 days of unemployment.

-With a quantity of 1,260 to 1,439 days of contribution, you have the right to 420 days of unemployment.

-With a quantity of 1,080 to 1,259 days of contribution, you have the right to 360 days of unemployment.

-With an amount of 900 to 1,079 days of contribution, you have the right to 300 days of unemployment.

-With a quantity of 720 to 899 days of contribution, you have the right to 240 days of unemployment.

-With a quantity of 540 to 719 days of contribution, you have the right to 180 days of unemployment.

-With a quantity of 360 to 539 days of contribution, you are entitled to 120 days of unemployment, the minimum time.

What is the amount of unemployment

As explained by the Public State Employment Service (SEPE), during the first six months of the benefit, 70% of the regulatory base will be charged and subsequently 50% of it. Said regulatory base will be made up of the average of the contribution bases for professional contingencies of the last 180 days.

There are also maximum amounts of unemployment, which stand at 1,379.18 euros per month for people without children, at 1,576.21 euros per month for people with one child and at 1,773.24 euros per month for people with two or more children.
