This is Facebook Viewpoints, the app that pays you to answer surveys

It is well known that large technology companies like Facebook try to learn as much as possible about their users in order to improve their functionality. And we could find in this excuse the perfect explanation for the launch of a new app by Mark’s company: Facebook Viewpoints.

A few days after it was announced (the app dedicated to creating memes), the technological giant has just taken out of market research that rewards users for answering surveys and participating in tasks and research. From the company itself they affirm, as we extract that: “the best way to improve products is to get information directly from the people who use them”.

And so it is. It seems that these ideas will be used throughout the company’s portfolio: Instagram, WhatsApp and Facebook.

How Facebook Viewpoints Works

How Facebook Viewpoints works it’s simple. Once registered, the user will receive invitations from the platform to join its programs, after explanation, by Facebook, about how they will be used and how many points you will receive for completing each program. The first available is related to well-being, and according to Zuckerberg’s company its objective is “create better products that aim to limit the negative impacts of and improve their benefits.”

The user of the application will know at all times what information Facebook is collecting, how it will be used, and how many points you will earn by completing the program. In the case of the well-being survey, for example, the estimated time is 15 minutes and 1,000 points are awarded for it, which translates into 5 dollars. Every time that amount of points is reached, Facebook sends the money directly to the user’s Paypal account within an estimated period of 7 to 10 days.

The essential requirement to be able to use it is Being over 18 years, although each program has its own selection criteria. The app is already available on iOS and Android, but for now only in the United States. The company hopes to expand it to more countries in the future.

What kind of information does Facebook Viewpoints ask for?

From Facebook they recognize that through this new application they will request information such as name, email, country of residence, gender and date of birth, although they can also request additional information such as the real location. The fact that the way to provide this information is voluntary could help mitigate some of the criticism that the company has received on other occasions for its practices with the data of its users.

In any case, Facebook ensures that will not sell the information of this app to third parties, and that you will not publicly share your users’ activity on other linked accounts without their permission. On the other hand, unsubscribing from the application would not be a problem.

We will have to wait to see how this new functionality is received and if we will soon have it in our country as well.
