This is the scam of the Vodafone call: there is no increase of 22 euros on your bill

Over the last year, scam attempts have increased both by phone calls and emails. Some scams that, in most cases, try to impersonate large companies to attract the attention of the consumer and generate false confidence. This time with Vodafone, the multinational telephone company of what the campaign is like for which they try to keep the bank details.

“If they call you saying that we are going to raise the quota to €22 immediately, HANG UP. They pretend to be our operators and, if you do not agree, they promise to put you in ‘a file’ so that the OCU will take care of it. other operators call you. It’s a scam, don’t bite!”, .

A scam known as the double call by which the scammer pretends to be the telephone company to warn of the new price increase. After a few minutes, and taking advantage of the consumer’s desperation, the fraudulent call is repeated, although this time from another company offering a lower rate.

It is in this chaos when the user, trying to get the best possible performance from his rate, provides his personal data and even his bank account as a requirement to pay less. Information that reaches scammers in order to have access to all the privacy of the scammed.

The OCU blames the companies and their conditions for the increase in this type of scam

In this case, this attempted scam also touches the Organization of Consumers and Users (OCU) which has also proceeded to denounce such calls. After warning that there is no such ‘blacklist’ to which reference is made to include the denied user with the rate increase, the institution has once again issued a call to attention to the telephone companies.

As a consequence of the rates, the repetitive calls from subcontractors that generate less trust or the policies that even hide the telephone numbers, the OCU reports that these companies are also guilty of promoting this type of scam.

“Some users indicate that they do not see the number of origin of the call reflected on the screen of their mobile, but in those cases in which the number is displayed, it is not helpful to identify those responsible for the deception, since a consumer does not can identify a company from the phone number”, they remark.

How to avoid these scams?

In the first place and as almost always happens with any scam, the fundamental step is to distrust the supply, demand or conditions of the product on which the scam is going. In addition, in this case it is convenient to check with Vodafone through official means if there is such a price increase.

For its part, the OCU has recalled that all new rates must be notified in writing, either on paper or by email. Likewise, there are usually no increases above 10 euros, in addition to the fact that notice must be given at least 30 days in advance of the new cost. Lastly, every new contract has 14 calendar days to back it out.
