After Effects Intermediate Course #9. Rotoscoping – .com

In the ninth class of the Intermediate After Effects course we will learn about rotoscoping tools, which will allow us to isolate objects in any type of video.

In the last class we saw how we could use keying to isolate an object from a solid colored background. But what happens when we want to do the same in a normal video?

We will learn how to use rotoscoping tools to be able to remove or isolate objects from our recordings. Let’s start!

As we can see, rotoscoping is used to isolate moving characters from the background. It has always been a tedious technique where it required us to equip ourselves with a lot of patience, it was one of those jobs that nobody wanted to do.

But since After Effects introduced its great invention, the Rotoscoping brush, which greatly helps us automate our work, this type of task seems much easier and more accessible.

This technique has been used for more than 100 years in the world of cinema, and it is a technique that Disney made his own, through which he created some of his most outstanding works. Beyond its use in drawings, this technique is present in many live action and even video clips.
It is a widespread technique that today is accessible to us through applications such as After Effects.

With After Effects we have the tools to apply this type of technique to our creations and finishes. We can use it both to isolate objects from a background, and to create visual effects that make them stand out.
