Attempted riot in Reclusorio Oriente in Mexico City leaves one dead and 8 injured

The Government of the reported that the fight that occurred this Thursday in the Reclusorio Oriente, in which between 30 and 40 inmates participated, left nine people injured, of whom one died, although the situation was controlled.

The capital’s government secretary, Rosa Icela Rodriguez, indicated at a press conference that the situation was controlled by security and custody personnel and all services inside the prison, including educational ones, have resumed, in addition to reinforcing surveillance.

At noon it transpired that relatives and visitors were evicted. Violent incidents were reported after noon; however, no official information on injuries has been given. According to Milenio TV, the attempted riot took place in Annex 7, and three people were injured.

The undersecretary of the CDMX Penitentiary system, Hazael Ruíz Ortega, had confirmed three injured by a sharp weapon, and that they are in stable condition. Before the cameras of Milenio Televisión, he added that prisoners in the dormitory of Annex 7 wanted to enter others (3,2,6).

The official said that the situation had been controlled and that the visits would return to normal this afternoon.

Relatives of the inmates arrived at the scene to obtain information about what is happening, the authorities have not provided official information about the attempted riot.
