DaVinci Resolve Course #9. Fairlight Module – .com

In this ninth class of the DaVinci Resolve course we delve into the tools available for editing audio with the Fairlight module.

The Fairlight module is a very powerful audio editing tool fully integrated into DaVinci Resolve. It’s intuitive and easy to use for beginners, but it also offers the speed and performance needed by professionals working on complex projects with thousands of tracks. It includes dozens of tools to record, edit, and mix audio, automatically replace dialog, enhance and equalize sound, process dynamics, and master soundtracks in any format, whether stereo, surround, or immersive 3D.

We saw in previous classes how we can edit the audio tracks from the Edit module or even the Montage module. But with Fairlight we can customize every aspect of our audio. Let’s see it!

During the past episodes we had focused a lot on the video image. But this time we have put the icing on the cake by adding the other fundamental element in a piece: the sound.

After incorporating the voice in voice, the background music and the effects we have, for the first time, the set of our first creation before us. It has a professional virtual console with buses and channels for the tracks in the timeline. These include faders for volume adjustment, stereo and 3-D layout controls, six slots for adding effects, dynamics processors, and a six-band EQ.

In this class we have seen the interface and the basic tools of this powerful module. With the concepts that we will learn here, we will be able to customize our audio tracks, both musical and dialogue, to give our sound a professional touch, which is as important as the image quality itself.

We will also witness how integrated all the DaVinci Resolve tools are, since we can make changes and adjustments to the audio from anywhere in the application.

In this lesson we have explored the basics of audio editing with the Fairlight plug-in. So for homework, we’re going to explore all of those effects that we haven’t touched on. Let’s practice using the equalizer and modify the parameters to see how our audio tracks behave.

As always, if you have any doubt or question, you can send it through the support form of the subscriber intranet. See you in the next lesson! 🙂
