Eight years to get a place: What are the most difficult oppositions?

A study carried out by the consulting firm Círculo Formación ensures that, compared to the 25% who would choose to undertake. On the other hand, this figure is 21% in the case of recent university graduates, according to the report of the FIEP 2020 Postgraduate Studies Fair.

It is true that this year the largest public employment offer in history has been published. This year there are more than 260,000 places offered and it is possible that this figure will increase at the end of the year. The latest published by the Government consists of , to which are added 10,637 places from the temporary employment stabilization plan.

On the other hand, within the ordinary job offer, 15,800 places will be freely accessible and 9,591 will be dedicated to internal promotion and the Government’s objective is that they be approved before the end of the year. Therefore, and with these data present, it is a good time to oppose. Irene Chía, CEO of ‘CazaTuPlaza’, the Software as a Service (SaaS) specialized in opposition training, assures that this year is unusual since “the last publication of places for the Administration is 20,000 and the normal number was 2,000 or 3,000 places “.

It must be taken into account that studying an opposition is a long process: “the average is six years, but this depends on the opposition and the circumstances of each opponent,” Chía asserts. As an example “a police opposition is three years old on average, while that of justice is six years or more and those of health are above eight years.”

Bearing all this in mind, here we count which are the most difficult competitive examinations depending on the load of the syllabi and the type of exams, number of places, number of calls, requirement of the courts, access qualification or civil servant group (mostly they are all A1).

State Attorney

People who have a law degree and decide to bet on being State lawyers must work on 465 topics. After that, on the day of the test they will have to do five exercises: the first is oral and they will have to explain to the jury eight topics drawn at random in 65 minutes. The second is another oral presentation of a subject, also chosen at random, and in which different subjects enter from those of the first exam. The third exercise is a language test that is divided into two parts, the first is compulsory and the second is voluntary. Finally, the fourth and fifth tests are resolutions of practical cases, with a maximum duration of 10 hours.

notary

Notaries are famous for having a good salary, but very little is said about the process that must be followed to get to that point. The oppositions to obtain the degree in Notary require having studied Law. After that, aspiring notaries have to study 370 topics to subsequently pass a selection process of four tests.

The first two exams are oral. The applicants prepare the matter and must present a subject drawn at random by the court. The third exam consists of a practical case that can last six hours and, finally, in the fourth test they must write a public deed and solve a financial mathematics accounting problem.

property registrar

This is another of the most difficult oppositions. Today it is very difficult to determine how many topics you have to study to qualify for a place, but different experts suggest that there are around 350 topics.

As is the case with the State attorney’s office, the person who aspires to a position in this area will have to pass five tests, beginning with an oral presentation in which they will have to talk about five topics chosen at random. The second exercise is also of an oral nature with different topics than the first.

But the difficulty involved in this opposition is that, unlike the others, after the first hour the court can interrupt the candidate and exclude him from the selection process because it considers that he lacks preparation.

In the event that the first two tests are passed, the candidate will have to face a third exercise in which they will have to qualify a document and write a report in a maximum of six hours. Finally, the fourth exam is also of a practical nature and has to do with tax settlements, registration, registration…

Judiciary and Prosecutor’s Office

Once again the world of law sneaks into the list of winners. In this case, the number of subjects that must be studied to enter the Public Ministry and the Judiciary are 328 and, on the day of the proceedings, people must first take a multiple choice exam of 100 questions, but it is not enough to pass the test. exam. These oppositions are the most competitive of all, since you have to be among the first 1,300 candidates with the highest marks to pass. If that happens, the next test is two oral exams of one hour each.

One of the tests deals with matters of Constitutional, Civil and Criminal Law, and the second deals with Civil Procedural Law, Criminal Procedural, Commercial, Administrative and Labor Law.

Diplomatic corps

These oppositions are included in the table because they are very little known, there are very few places and the requirement of the evaluating panel is extreme. It must be taken into account that the level is so high because the person who gets a position will represent the State, therefore, the position demands great responsibility.

As published in the resolution of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the diplomacy selection process has two phases: in the first, the general culture of the candidates is evaluated through written and oral exercises, according to the agenda of the opposition. To this are added language tests, text comments, a personal interview and a subject exam.

In the second phase, there is already access to a selective course for trainee officials that does not guarantee a place, since this process is also eliminatory.

After these five, would be the oppositions for Inspection of Finance, Inspection of Labor and Social Security, Intervention and Audit of the State, Education or Health. In addition, the fact that a person has obtained a 10 in an exam does not imply that they get their place the first time, “because the merits mean the grade, if you do not have points for years worked, courses, careers, you may not get a place ” recalls Irene Chía.

Therefore, the most important thing when facing an opposition is to be clear that you have to spend a lot of time and effort and that the results are not always a fixed place the first time, but you have to repeat the tests to be able to get a position in public office.
