Instagram maintains a battle to recover the throne that has gradually been taken from it. Two years ago Instagram Reels were released, its short video format that seeks to imitate the Chinese social network and that has gradually become relevant to the point of displacing other important sections of the application such as stories and even the pictures.

Meta’s plans now are to wear the Reels to the next level, so starting in the next few weekseverybody videos with a duration of less than 15 minutes that are shared on the platform will be automatically converted as reels, as announced by the company in its

This format change will not apply for videos that have been published previously to the ad and will continue to appear as normal videos.

Public Reels can be used by any user

From Meta they have explained that the Videos from public accounts can be recommended to more people, in case they are less than 90 seconds long, even if the original author is not followed. In the case of private accounts, the Reels will be seen only by the followers, the same as always.

In addition, with this novelty the Public account reels can be used by any user to make remixes, collaborations or duets. For their part, the Video and Reels tabs will be merged to transfer the content to the same space.

New editing tools

Another important announcement that the social network has made is the integration of new creation and edition tools, which will allow Reels users to create and share their videos more easily.

Thus, the Reels editor is armed with three new options:

  • Using public photos to make remixes custom: an option that opens a range of editing possibilities.
  • Customization of Reels with more backgrounds: With this option you can choose between green screen, split screen, both horizontally and vertically, or reaction view to add a comment on existing Reels.
  • Remix: When you make a remix, instead of your clip playing along with the original, it can be added at the end to play them sequentially.

Of course, this remix option may not be to everyone’s liking, so Instagram added a new privacy option. So by default, if your account is public, all your videos will be able to be part of the remix, but there will be an option that will allow you to remove that option, and on the other hand you can also allow them to be shared on other feeds without explicit permission. You can disable these options on each video individually.

Beyond these new tools, Instagram wants to promote the creation of Reels, thus, the social network has also focused on updating the templates, and in this way you only have to choose the model you prefer and add your own photos and videos.
