The (Semantic Web) is the web of “metadata”. It is based on the idea of adding metadata (data about data) on web pages. That additional information describes the content, meaning, and relationship of the data.
These metadata must be provided with certain established criteria so that they can be read from any information processing system, either another web page, a search engine, or an application, from third parties. The objective is improve quality and organization of information from the Internet.
The Semantic Web is based on metalanguages and representation standards. The best known are XML and RDF:
- XML: Provides superficial syntax for structured documents, without giving them meaning.
- RDF: Data model for the resources and the relationships that can be established between them. It provides a basic semantics for this data model that can be represented by XML.
The semantic web has begun to be labeled web 3.0 since the introduction of search snippets. with metadata:
- microdata: HTML5 specification
- microformats: Draft Label Agreement
- RFDA: W3C Recommendation
The usability and use of the Web can be significantly improved with the semantic web thanks to documents are tagged with semantic information. It is intended that this information is interpreted by automatic systems with a capacity comparable to that of the human reader.
