Why there is no Instagram app for iPad: the company finally explains it

The director of Instagram confirms that the reason why there is no version of Instagram for iPad is because the number of people who use this device to connect to said social network is too low.

For many it is a surprise that one of the most used and popular applications in the world, such as Instagram, does not have a version specifically for iPad. Until now the reason was completely unknown, but after an exchange on Twitter, the director of Instagram, Adam Mosseri, has cleared up our doubts.

Responding to YouTuber Marques Brownlee, Mosseri explained why in 2022 Instagram still didn’t have an iPad-optimized version of the app. And it is that although we can use said app on this device, we will find limitations in terms of the functions that are available and those that are not.

Yup, we get this one a lot. It’s still just not a big enough group of people to be a priority. Hoping to get to it at some point, but right now we’re very heads down on other things.

And although Mosseri confesses that he is frequently asked about this issue, the lack of a specific app for iPad is due to the fact that the number of users is too low to become a priority for the company. These statements are somewhat surprising as Instagram would not have to go to great lengths to create a platform for this support.

The company does not rule out that in the future they will enable an app for this, but for the moment this is not going to happen. Meanwhile, those users who want to use Instagram from their iPads can do it in two ways.

The first one is using the same application that is used for iPhone. You will simply have to download it from the Apple Store and you will be able to use it, however, you will find that since it is for iPhone the screen is quite forced and that it has a rather low quality.

The other option is to access Instagram directly from the web version of the application. Here, users can enjoy almost all the features, but this option still has limitations, most notably the inability to upload stories or use filters and other editing tools on posts.

Due to the success of this application, it is to be expected that at some point Instagram will take the step and create a specific app for iPad, but for now we can confirm that this idea is not a priority for the company.
