WordPress Course #1. Buy a domain and hire a hosting – .com

Let’s start with the basics. In this class we are going to learn how to buy a domain and contract a hosting to create our website in WordPress.

WordPress is the most widely used CMS for creating websites on the internet. It is a free software tool, supported by a huge community of developers, translators, or designers.

As it is the tool with which we are going to carry out most of the courses, it is convenient for us to know what WordPress is and, above all, why we use WordPress.

1.1. What is WordPress?

We are going to see it in the next video, and we will also learn the difference between WordPress.org and WordPress.com. Let us begin!

As you have seen, there are many ways to make a web page. But not all of them are within our reach, nor are they worth the investment of time they require, both in learning and in development. We already have the basics clear!

1.2. What is a domain and what is hosting?

When we are going to set up a website, we find ourselves with two fundamental concepts that will accompany us throughout the useful life of the website, which are domain and hosting or web hosting.

In the following video we are going to learn what a domain is and what a hosting is, and we are going to see what possibilities of web hosting we can find, and what we must take into account when choosing one.

Well, now we have the concepts clear, we know what we can find when we enter the web page of any hosting company, what types of servers there are, as well as the types of administration panels and the companies that we can find more or less known within the WordPress world. Now it’s time to hire both the domain and the web hosting.

We have separated the videos according to the task you are going to do, in case you want to return to them at different times, so you can review them all to get a general idea, and then practice on the platform that interests you the most, or go directly to the case you are going to choose directly.

1.3. How to hire a domain and hosting

The intention of this course is to start from scratch. That is why, once we have seen the basic concepts, we are going to start with the first thing we must do if we want to create and publish a website: contract a domain.

So, let’s start by buying a domain and hosting. The first option is buy a loose domain, without hosting. Let’s see how to see if it is free and how to buy it.

You see that it is not difficult to buy a loose domain. But the usual thing, and surely more comfortable for most, is to buy a domain with a hosting, all together.

It is in fact, the most common option when we have nothing and we are going to start from scratch, since buying a domain and not having hosting where to host the web is useless.

Next we are going to learn buy the domain together with the hostingwhich is not very different from what we have done before, we will see what are the different possibilities that hosting offers us, what characteristics we should look at and what plans we can choose.

In addition, all subscribers have 3 free months of hosting, so that you can set up your website without rushing, and without starting to pay before having it ready. Go for it!

Well, we already have our domain and our hosting! From now on we will dedicate ourselves to installing and configuring WordPress, the software that we will use to create our personal, corporate, eCommerce, membership site, or whatever we want.

For homework, we suggest you hire a hosting (you can use the three free months), either with or without a domain, to be ready and move on to the next lesson.

As always, if you have any doubt or question, you can send it through the support form of the subscriber intranet. See you in the next lesson! 🙂
