WordPress migration course #5: Domain change – .com

In the fifth class of the WordPress migration course we are going to migrate a WordPress from one domain to another… Without moving it! Migrate without migrating.

5 – Domain change in WordPress

We have already seen how to “import and export” content from one WordPress to another, how to move an entire WordPress and how to move a local WordPress to production. But what happens if we want to change the domain? Do I need to migrate something? Do we have to export everything and import it again?

Indeed, it is not necessary. If what we want to do is just change our domain to another, we don’t need to “move” WordPress, just make certain changes at the server and database level. Let’s see it!

So, you already know. If you want to migrate your WordPress installation from one domain to another, you don’t need to copy all the files and database from one site to another, but changing certain parameters will be enough.

Of course, you must make sure that all the redirections are established afterwards so as not to lose a bit of SEO, since it would be a shame if Google deindexed us for forgetting these details, which are barely 4 lines of code.

See you in the next class, in which we will see what to do if we want to migrate WordPress… From one hosting to another! 🙂
