The most common way to write a post in WordPress is the control panel (back end). Today we will see how to do it from the web (front end).

By default WordPress offers us a visual editor from which we can compose posts, pages and any other type of content:

Through the tabs on the top right we can switch from a “Visual” view to a “Text” view. The first option (Visual) It allows us to apply formats, alignments, indentations, lists, images and everything typical that any text editor offers us. Instead the second option (Text) It only shows a simple text box in which we can only see plain text, and if we want to add something, we must do it with HTML.

It is true that the “Visual” option allows us to have a certain idea of ​​how the post will look, but It is not much the same as seeing it on the website itself. Hence, on many occasions, before publishing the article we have to hit the “Preview” button to get an idea of ​​how it will look. But of course, that means a dizziness of “going back and forth” from the control panel to the web and from the web to the control panel.

Wouldn’t it be nice to be able to write articles directly on the web? Well, that is possible thanks to a very special plugin.

Front-end Editor

It is not just any plugin. We could say that it is an “official” plugin, since it is being developed and directed by Ella Iseulde Van Dorpe and the people of WordPress.org, and it is known that in the long term it will be incorporated into the core (that is, it will end up being standard in WordPress).

When we install and activate it, we find a new link in the administration bar that allows us to both edit and create new posts and content:

We just have to click on “New” or “Edit entry” and that’s it. We can now edit the title, content, categories, and we can even change the featured image. We simply have to click where we want and that’s it:

Also, if we select any text, a message box will appear. contextual menu in which we can format the text with bold, italics, strikethrough, add links, quotes and headings. And attention, because we can even use the typical keyboard shortcutssuch as “Control + B” for bold, “Control + U” for underline, “Control + K” to insert a link, etc.

Apart from direct editing in the post, we have a menu at the bottom of the screen from which we can choose the category, the status of the post, the visibility, and the author:

Once we have made all the changes, we just have to click on the “Update” button from the same menu, and that’s it. The changes are already saved. That easy, that simple, that fast.

The uses and advantages of this plugin are several. On the one hand, it is very convenient to write from the frontend itself without having to go to the control panel, since the process is much more fluid, since we save several steps.
