Zaragoza will be a strategic node in the EU Hyperloop network

Zaragoza will be a strategic node in the European Hyperloop network, ultra-fast transport that will exceed 700 kilometers per hour. This is an ambitious technological development program involving public and private partners, including the Dutch government and the European company Hardt Hyperloop, responsible for the creation of the European Hyperloop Center (EHC).

The Etopía building in the Aragonese capital hosts this Monday the international conference ‘HyperLoop, a look at the mobility of the future’, in which the details of this network, in which Zaragoza is integrated, and whose objective is the implementation of this ultra-fast means of transport, energetically sustainable and safer than conventional means by road or rail, which will allow the transport of people and goods at a speed of between 700 and 1,000 kilometers per hour.

The leader of the Hardt Hyperloop project, Stan de Caluwe, has ratified the program’s strong commitment to the Aragonese capital as an essential point of the network in southern Europe.

“A lot of things are happening – said Stan de Caluwe – in the city of Zaragoza to make transport more sustainable, but there is one piece missing in the puzzle: to go further. And with hyperloop we believe we have found that piece, because we will be able to replace a large part of continental air traffic, both passenger and freight, with another sustainable model”.

For his part, the Mayor of Zaragoza, Jorge Azcón, underlined the value of actively participating in this type of project in the experimental phase, not only as a driving force for attracting companies and European public investment and for generating qualified employment, but also as a way of offering added value to the industry that is already established in the territory.

Benefits

“Our companies,” he said, “will be able to reach a radius of 300 kilometers in just 30 minutes and will be able to move up to 10,000 pallets per hour.” All this with a series of added advantages: increased safety by reducing road transport, reduced energy consumption, an end to greenhouse gas emissions and the elimination of noise and vibrations, the mayor of the city has listed.

This future high-speed transport network will have in Zaragoza one of its most important nodes in southern Europe, with connections to different parts of Europe through a system of tubes with low air pressure through which trains would travel. it capsules merchandise and, in the future, people.

Ten European cities participate in this research and development project, including Rotterdam, Munich and Berlin, with which Zaragoza will work closely over the next few years.

In the case of Zaragoza, for its inclusion in the program its high value as a first-class logistics enclave has been valued, as well as the well-known commitment of the PP-Cs Government to technology, innovation and sustainability by opening the city to pilot experiences related to sustainable mobility.

Currently, in Zaragoza, pilot projects are being carried out by the European Union and large international companies related to the autonomous driving of trams, urban buses, drones and automated vehicles for the delivery of merchandise and products at home.

More speed and less emissions

The hyperloop ultra-fast transport system will triple the speed of current high-speed trains, with lower energy consumption and the elimination of emissions into the atmosphere.

It is thus part of the strategy to combat climate change undertaken by the PP-Cs Government and the objective of achieving emission neutrality in 2030 by mandate of the European Commission, as Zaragoza was chosen as one of the 100 smart cities and climate neutral that must serve as an example to other municipalities to successfully meet this challenge.

For this reason, an international conference has been organized in the Etopía building in which some of its top managers will present this ambitious project to companies, specialists and the Aragonese media.

Among those attending the conference are, in addition to the leader of the Hardt Hyperllop project, Stan de Caluwe, representatives of the University of Zaragoza, the Association of Industrial Engineers of Aragon, Zaragoza Logistics Center, Mobility City, the Chamber of Commerce and the company CAF , among many other large companies established in Zaragoza such as Grupo Sesé, Amazon, Grupo Carreras and Grupo Ágora-Ámbar.
