Add new user to a Stripe account – .com

In this tutorial we are going to see how to add a new user to a Stripe account from the administration panel.

Stripe and online businesses

Stripe is mostly known as a payment gateway, but the truth is that it is much more than that. As the company itself indicates on its website, it is a complete tool for online businesses.

And this is because it is not only useful in terms of payment management, but the company also develops other tools and services for electronic commerce. Some of its products are Billing, for recurring invoices and subscriptions, Connect, for the marketplace, or Atlas, to create a business in the US, among others.

On the other hand, the Stripe rates are very affordables. On the subject of payments at the European level, it has rates cheaper than PayPal. Specifically, 1.4% + €0.25 compared to 3.4% + €0.35 of the latter, that is, it is 2 points below.

All this together with the fact that it works in more than 100 countries or that it has a very intuitive administration panel, make this platform a particularly interesting option.

Well, having said all this, let’s see what concerns us in this tutorial. Stripe offers us the possibility of creating a team of users within the account. In fact, we can add new users to said team so that they can manage it according to the level of access they have. Let’s see how to do it!.

Add new user to team

The first thing will be to access the official Stripe site. Then we will click on the menu option “Start session” or “Sign in”, which we will find in the upper right corner.

By identifying ourselves we will enter directly to the administration panel. You will see that it has many options available, we explain all of them point by point in it so that you can take advantage of this platform.

Well, if we go to “Business Settings” and then enter “Team”, we will see that from here it is possible to invite other people so that they can access the control panel.

We will simply have to click on “New User” and a window will open where we must fill in the email of the users we want invite accountseparating them by commas, as well as the role that will be assigned to them.

As we can see, there are several levels of access or roles available: Administrator, Developer, Analyst, Support Specialist and View only. Let’s look at each of the options.

  • Manager: This role has all permissions including manage team and banking settings, can view and edit all available options. That is, they have the same level of access as the account owner. It is ideal for business owners and managers.
  • developer: This level is suitable for developers and people who handle the Stripe API. This role cannot make changes to team members, nor can they update bank information or edit payment settings.
  • Analyst: The analyst profile is suitable for people who need full access to the data that Stripe manages. In this case they cannot make any configuration changes to the account and they also do not have access to view the API keys.
  • Support Specialist: This role is suitable for employees who are in charge of customer service, either solving a problem that is generated with payments or making returns. They can’t see account settings, API keys, financial reports, and more.
  • view only: Allows the team user to access all payment information for the account, but cannot make changes to or view configuration settings or API keys.

Send invitation

Well, in this case we are going to introduce another administrator to the team. To do this, we only have to write the e-mail of the person we want to invite and select the role, this time “Administrator”. Then we will click on “Invite”.

Next, another window will open where we will have to authenticate ourselves again with the Stripe password. And now, by clicking on “Authenticate” we can send the invitation.

Once we do, two things will happen. On the one hand, the user will be added in standby mode in the administration box of the account team.

At the same time, Stripe will send an email to the email that we indicate to invite the user to access. If the user does not have a Stripe account, they will have to register, if they have an account, they will be asked to log in and later they will be able to switch from one account to another.

When the email arrives and you accept the invitation, the user’s status will change and we will have the possibility of modifying the assigned role or deleting it.

When editing, as in this case it is an administrator role, we could also transfer ownership to said user.

And that’s all! In this simple way we can give access to other members of our team so that they can access the Stripe account and can carry out the actions they need according to their role.

Summary and conclusion

Stripe is a very complete business tool. It offers a multitude of services in addition to being a well-known payment gateway with significantly lower rates than PayPal. Among the possibilities that it offers us is to add a new user to an account.
