Alert for new CaixaBank customers: this is the scam that tries to deceive with the Bankia merger

Yet another attack against CaixaBank users, who in recent months have been experimenting through text messages, WhatsApp chains and emails. Always using the Bankia merger as an excuse, cyberattacks thus try to obtain confidential information that endangers bank accounts.

Now with all the Bankia services in CaixaBank, even the website of what used to be Caja Madrid, the new clients arriving at the largest banking platform in Spain begin to adapt to the new systems, interfaces and ways of operating with their accounts currents.

However, they must be extremely careful in these early days as many cyberattacks are being detected trying to take advantage of the confusion caused by the movement. On this last occasion through SMS messages, phishing attempts are becoming popular to try to steal personal data.

Passwords should never be given to a website that is suspected of being fraudulent

“We regret to inform you that your account has been deactivated, and for your security we ask you to complete the following link,” reads the alleged notice from CaixaBank that some new clients of the old Bankia are receiving. With a url, the text encourages you to click on it, but this is where the scam becomes more dangerous.

Once on the fraudulent website, which simulates the entity’s appearance, the user is asked for his credentials to reactivate his account. Some data that if given, cybercriminals will have obtained confidential access with which to make purchases with stolen cards or make fraudulent bank transfers.

Through the email address posible.phishing@caixabank.com, the entity informs its clients that it can send any suspicious scam notification that it receives so that it can be put under surveillance by its cybercrime experts. In addition, if you fall into the trap, it is best to notify CaixaBank quickly so that its professionals can act and block the bank account, making transfers or other operations from the service impossible.
