How to unlink your email account from Google Adwords

One of the most common problems that we find when we want to create an account is that the email account we want to start with has already been used with another Google Adwords account, which we do not actively use. This happens sometimes when they want to give us administrator access to a Google Adwords account and our email account is already used with another Google Adwords account. In this case, when trying to accept the invitation as an administrator, Google will warn us that this email account is already linked to an Adwords account. The problem is when this account is an old account, which we created a long time ago and do not really use. In this article we try to explain how to unlink your Google Adwords email account to use it with another account. It is a fairly manual or traditional remedy, but it really ends up working. There is no other alternative because at the moment Google does not allow us to be the administrator of two Google Adwords accounts (unless we are an MCC).

Let’s start with the example that the email account we want to unlink from Adwords is old@gmail.com. We are also going to use two different browsers, for everything related to logins the old account will be in Google Chrome and the new account in Firefox (Sorry Internet Explorer fans :-P)

1) Create a new gmail account. This can be called anything, in this example we are going to call it new@gmail.com. Take note of the password for this, since we will need to log in later.

2) In a different browser than the one we used to create the new gmail account, We logged into our Adwords account with the old account antigua@gmail.com.

3) Once we have logged in, we go to the cogwheel on the top right (Popularly known as configuration). In this we will click on linked accounts. Once there (Menu on the left) we will click on Login to the account. In this new screen that we will arrive at, there is the +Usuarios button. We must click on this and add the new account (nueva@gmail.com) as administrator.

4) We return to the browser where we have created the new email account (nueva@gmail.com), we look at the inbox and we must have received an invitation from Google Adwords to be an administrator of the old@gmail.com account (Sent in step 3). We click on the link to accept the invitation. After this, we go to adwords.google.com and log in with this same account.

5) As this account has two administrators, From the new@gmail.com account in Adwords, we have to go to the same cogwheel on the top right, click on linked accounts and then on account login. On this screen, under the actions option. We need to remove the old@gmail.com account as administrator.

6) Clever! Once this is done, our old account will be released and not linked to any Adwords account, since the administrator of the adwords account will be the new email. With this, we can do what we want or create a new Adwords account or directly accept an invitation to be an administrator of another account.
