Interview with Jordi Wild

In just 4 years you have managed to exceed 7 million followers on YouTube. Did you imagine when you started with the channel that you would have this success?

Jordan Wild: No way. I started uploading videos to my channel for funIt was something that entertained me and I have a great time doing it. I never imagined that it would become my profession and above all that people would like what I do or that I could connect with so many people in such a close way. In fact, there are times when I look back and wonder how so many things could have happened in these four years, most of them unplanned.

How is your day to day at the YouTube level? (How much time do you dedicate to each video since you start preparing it, how much time do you spend managing your followers’ queries, etc…)

A video, from the idea until it is published it can easily take 7-8 hours and on average I upload three a week, As minimum. All this entails, in addition to thinking about the concept, scripting it, recording it (repeating what needs to be improved) and editing it, which is usually what takes up the most time. In any case, it is not something fixed because some formats require more dedication; in there are interviews, films, video clips, video-reactions… They are all different and some take days or even entire weeks to finish.

In addition, to all this is added being very present in , responding to the proposals that come to me for new videos, being in contact with my followers and managing my clothing brand On the other hand, I have some projects in hand that I can’t count yet but that also take a long time.

What advice would you give someone who is thinking of following in your footsteps right now?

The first thing I would tell you is that don’t follow my footsteps because at the end of the day in this job you have to be yourself and although it seems like the usual story, it is so because each is different and if something has penetrated people it is the naturalness with which we make the videos. There, everyone has to find what they really like, what they identify with and have a good time. This is the only way you get people to enjoy and appreciate what you do.

In any case, I would add, and this is something that I have kept in mind throughout these years, that to make a place for yourself on YouTube you have to be very consistent and take this posting content seriouslydo not do it crazy and without any criteria.

What do you think is the main advantage of YouTube for brands?

YouTube is like opening the doors of millions of homes and having the opportunity to launch a message. That is the first advantage and the one that entails the most responsibility, for all of us who are present on the platform.

I also believe that it is a space that, especially the new generations, perceive as something close, as an environment away from the traditional concept of television and with a more varied offer adapted to what the audience asks for. Therefore, I believe that by adjusting the formats to the characteristics of YouTube and knowing what people like and what they are very likely to reject, YouTube offers many and very good possibilities.

To finish, a bit of futurology: How do you imagine YouTube will be in 2020?

Interesting question and also complicated. I think that new concepts and formats will emerge and, I would like to think, that the videos will be increasingly professional and of better quality. We cannot continue offering the same as four years ago because there will come a time when people get fed up and say, “enough”. I think we need to innovate to give the best of ourselves and create content that when you see it makes you say, “wow”
