These are the bonuses in Social Security contributions if you hire a domestic worker

The employment situation of domestic workers has recently improved with the implementation of new measures in the heat of Convention 189 of the International Labor Organization (ILO). The most outstanding of all is the extension of the contribution of these workers, who will finally be able to do so for unemployment and for the Salary Guarantee Fund (FOGASA).

This increase in the contribution inevitably entails an increase in the payment of Social Security contributions by the employers of these workers. For this reason, the Government has included certain bonuses in the payment of these quotas to reduce the impact of their increase on the economy of employers.

In its , Social Security has explained that both people who want to hire a domestic worker and those who have already hired one are entitled to bonuses in quotas.

These discounts are included in Royal Decree-Law 16/2022, of September 6, which can be consulted . Specifically, two bonuses are established that affect all contracts signed with domestic workers:

-A bonus of 20% of the resulting fee for common contingencies.

-A bonus of 80% of the resulting fee for unemployment and FOGASA.

These reductions are for employers and will not reduce the worker’s contribution. The text of the law makes it clear that the bonuses will occur in the “business contribution to the Social Security contribution”.

These bonuses will not be indefinite. In the fifth additional provision of the law, it is explained that two years after its entry into force, its effectiveness will be evaluated: “This analysis will evaluate its effectiveness and assess the convenience of maintaining the aforementioned hiring incentives.”

Other bonuses in the quotas of domestic workers

As explained by the Social Security, there are other bonuses that were applied before the entry into force of the new working conditions for domestic workers. These bonuses are also for employers and, if you meet the requirements to enjoy several, only the largest amount will be applied:

-20% in the employer’s fee if the worker did not perform housework for that employer between August 2 and December 31, 2011.

-45% in the employer’s fee in the case of belonging to a large family.

-100% of the employer’s fee if a person with reduced mobility is registered, who is going to replace a victim of gender violence or who replaces the usual worker for reasons of maternity leave or risk during the pregnancy.
