many users have seen each other tempted to change to the American on-demand platform or, alternatively, to try this new video-on-demand service. Netflix It is an American company that has been in the United States for many years, so the high expectation generated by its arrival in Spain was more than logical.
The question we must ask ourselves is Is Netflix really worth it? To answer this question, we have decided to make a comparison with what is, at the moment, its most direct rival: Wuaki TV.
30 days of free trial, the great asset of Netflix
Although Netflix provides us 30 day trial in an account with access to everything, we decided to use the most basic: €7.99 per month with access to the entire catalog with standard image quality.
At first, we are surprised that the platform asks us about our tastes, allowing us create different profiles from which we can select which series or movies we like. We can even choose to activate the Parental control in any account, being a very useful feature for the little ones in the house.
As we are a family with children and with varied tastes, this option it suits us perfectly, since we can choose both the European cinema that we like so much and all the available cartoons, which we are sure that we are going to see quite often as a family in front of the television.
Netflix for the series, Wuaki TV for the movies
Right off the bat, disappoints us the size of the catalog a bit: it does not have too many titles and the way to find them thanks to the categories is somewhat strange, since they are very unspecific topics. As for the catalog itself, Netflix is focused on series loverssince although it doesn’t have big “blockbusters” like ‘The Walking Dead’, it does have complete seasons of fictions like ‘Narcos’ or ‘Jessica Jones’ that make it level up.
As to films, the Netflix catalog not too wide and is a few years old. In favor it must be said that they are all accessible from any subscription, differing from Wuaki that only allows us to access, if we are with the basic account, those categorized as Selection, having to pay a rental price for the most recent releases.
The child factor plays in favor of Wuaki
If we take a look at kids content, Netflix is once again focusing on the series, leaving aside any important movies for children such as Pixar or Disney. In that Wuaki wins, which has firsts of all, some paying rent, from the first moment we checked in.
In short: why choose Netflix
- with any subscription all content is free. It is not necessary to add extra costs as it happens in Wuaki.
- Personalization of content: by being able to create different profiles, we obtain recommendations adapted to our tastes.
- different rates: depending on whether we want more or less image quality or to be able to use the account on two or more devices (simultaneously), we can choose the subscription that we prefer: (€7.99 / €9.99 / €11.99). The first is for one device at standard quality, the second for two devices at HD, and the third for four devices at (up to) 4k.
- great image quality: an almost perfect streaming (depending on the connection we have at home, of course).

Why choose Wuaki?
We could give you our own opinion as to why choose Wuaki over Netflix, but it’s our own PR Director of WuakiHe tells us his point of view:
“Not all content on Netflix is free. You pay a subscription, just like you pay at Wuaki.tv if you enter Selection. On the other hand, most of the extra cost movies are because due to the distribution windows of the industry, those that are less than two years old with respect to the cinema cannot be included in a subscription package. That is why Wuaki has two models: Subscription – where those movies that are over two years old and the Series are, and Sale and Rental – where those movies that are less than 2 years old are. In addition, Wuaki has more movies in its subscription section than Netflix, it can be used on 5 devices at the same time without extra payments and the image quality is similar to that of Netflix»
In summary, although the lack of content means that the final experience is not entirely satisfactory, it is likely that over the months, and with the increase in the catalogue, our opinion will improve. And as long as the two subscriptions remain this cheap, we’ll still opt for use the two platforms in a complementary way.
