How to delegate my own domain with hosting to Tiendanube

A hosting is a platform where your domains, subdomains, email accounts and other files you have are hosted. To learn how to delegate your domain with hosting to your Tiendanube, keep reading this article!

An internet domain is the name that a website receives to be identified. This must be exclusive, that is, it cannot be repeated since it refers to a particular brand.

For example, it is the domain of Tiendanube in Argentina.

Let’s make an analogy to understand it even better. We can compare a domain to the physical address of a business.

That own domain is the place where the customer finds the store and that no other can occupy. To keep it active, you must pay an annual license fee, similar to renting a place. If you stop paying, you run the risk of another tenant occupying the place.

At the same time, the subdomains are like “doors” of that virtual premises where, depending on which door the client uses to enter, they will access different parts of the premises, in this case, the content of the website.

How is it guaranteed that each domain is unique? This is where DNS comes into play. In today’s article, we go into detail about these topics to tell you how you can use your own domain in .

What is DNS

The acronym DNS refers to Domain Name System which means Domain Name System. Thanks to this database we can browse the internet, since it works by pointing the domain names to the corresponding server or hosting.

So, the DNS are the systems that are responsible for ensuring that each domain is unique and unrepeatable and indicate which server they belong to. In this way, users can access them and navigate through them.

With these clearer concepts, let’s continue to explain how you can request a modification in the DNS in order to delegate your own domain with hosting to Tiendanube. Let’s go!

What is the CNAME record

If you want to link your own domain (that is, your URL) to your Tiendanube and you have or a hosting that you want to maintain, you will have to create a record in this hosting or server.

The type of record you have to create is called . This will allow you to keep your current hosting with all your mailboxes (for example: info@yourdomain.com) and use the domain you have chosen as your store address.

Before we start, we want to make some clarifications about the registration of the CNAME record:

  • The steps may vary depending on the hosting you have contracted.
  • Some hostings do not provide the possibility to create CNAME records from their administration panel.
  • In case you cannot proceed with the steps in this tutorial, we recommend contacting your hosting and asking them to create the CNAME record that points to your Tiendanube domain (for example: yourdomain.mytiendanube.com).

Steps to delegate your domain with hosting to Tiendanube

1. Create the CNAME record (generic steps)

To create this record I followed these steps:

  1. Enter the administration panel of your hosting or server with your username and password.
  2. Choose the “Domains” section, select the one you are going to configure and look for the place where the records are managed. This section is usually called “Edit DNS”.
  3. In that section, create a new record of type CNAME. You will find 3 fields to complete (they can have different names):
    1. Type, name or source (enter your own full domain, for example “www.yourdomain.com”).
    2. TTL (enter the number 21600. If this option does not appear, you can put the first one that appears).
    3. Content or destination (enter the address of your Tiendanube, for example “yourdomain.mytiendanube.com”).
  4. Select “OK” and you’re done!

Once you have done the CNAME record, you are going to move on to the next stage which is to create an A record.

2. Create an A record

The A record will allow your web address to work without the “www” in front of it.

It should be noted that if you already have another A record configured, you have to delete or replace it. We recommend this to avoid inconveniences in the operation of this own domain.

Likewise, before doing so, it is important that you know where the registry is directed. This could generate changes that affect the functioning of your e-mails (in case you have accounts with your own domain) or access.

To link your URL from your hosting with your Tiendanube, follow these guidelines:

  1. Enter the administration panel of your server or hosting.
  2. In the “Domains” (or similar) section, select the domain that you are going to configure and look for the place where the records will be managed.
This is often referred to as “DNS Zone Editing”.
  3. Click on “Manage”.
  4. Select “Add record”.
  5. Complete the requested fields in the form and touch the “Add record” button.
  6. Once the changes have impacted (these can take up to 48 hours), you will see your domain “Active”. Select the “Activate an SSL security certificate” option to start this process, which can take up to 24 hours.

  1. Select “Settings” > “Domains”.
  2. Click on “Link a new domain”.
  3. Write your own domain (for example: “www.yourdomain.com”) and choose “Save domain”. It is essential that in this step you write your address with the “www.” ahead. You will see that, when you add it, the version without the “www” will be added.
  4. Clever! Keep in mind that the status of the process may say “Failure to link” since these configurations can take up to 48 hours to impact. Once that time has passed, you will see your domain as “Active” and working in your store.

If you configured your domain more than 48 hours ago and it is still not working in your store, we suggest you contact us at hola@.
